For Tropical Futures’ 2024 capsule collection, Assi Abogado developed the Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito Longsleeve, a design rooted in personal memory and cultural heritage. The work translates formative experiences at the Angono Petroglyphs, a site central to the artist’s youth, into a contemporary emblem.
Evoking nostalgia and the affective resonance of Ang Pag-ibig Kong Ito by Leah Navarro, the design reinterprets prehistoric etchings into a visual language that bridges past and present. Through this process, the long sleeve functions as both wearable object and mnemonic device, reflecting the artist’s negotiation of self within new environments and the enduring connection to home.
